Rothsay Transition FAQs:

How does this transition affect Rothsay customers?

The tangible effects to customers are very few. Our address and phone numbers remain the same, and employees, management and ownership remains unchanged with the brand update.

We are the same people, operating the same way, under a different brand.

The one change that customers will need to note is that when making cheques out for payment, they can no longer be made out to “Rothsay.” Instead, they must be made out to our legal business name: Darling International Canada Inc. or the bank will not be able to cash them and another cheque will need to be re-issued.
Additionally, those using Rothsay-branded bins will start to see the Darling brand over time as bins are replaced—but this will happen gradually.

Why the change from Rothsay to Darling?

At the time of acquisition in November 2013, Darling International was primarily a US-based company with limited brand recognition outside of the USA, while Rothsay was well established brand in Canada with a long history.

In 2014, Darling International continued to grow via the major acquisition of Vion Ingredients, a rendering and ingredient manufacturer with operations on five continents. Shortly after this acquisition, Darling rebranded its corporate name from Darling International to Darling ingredients.

From 2014-2021, Darling Ingredients has continued to grow its footprint both in the US and internationally.

With the international growth of the Darling brand, it became clear that there was value in aligning our Canadian brand with that of our international brand which has led us to rebrand the Canadian business to Darling Ingredients

If the Rothsay acquisition happened in 2013, why the announcement now?

Although the acquisition was completed in 2013, the Canadian business continued to operate under the Rothsay brand due to the value in the brand, both with our customers and our employees.

Keeping the Rothsay brand name allowed employees time to gain familiarity with Darling and time to understand that the acquisition would not have any fundamental changes to their job or the way the company operates.

As Darling Ingredients has expanded internationally, the time was right to rebrand our business to align brands in Canada. In 2021, we began to roll out the changes. You may have noticed that the trucks you see, and the uniforms used by our drivers were rebranded to Darling Ingredients, along with the communications you receive from the company.

We realize this brand change may take time in the eyes of the customer due to the long history of Rothsay, and wanted to take the opportunity to provide a formal introduction between our loyal customers and the new brand.

How Darling Ingredients Will Continue to Provide Quality Service to Rothsay Customers

Long-time Rothsay customers can expect the same great service and products they have always received from the same great team. The transition has no impact on operations; it is a rebrand to better reflect our international brand and the purpose of the company.

The Darling Ingredients brand helps identify our company for what we are: an ingredients manufacturing company. We take inedible animal byproducts and used cooking oil and transform them into high-quality ingredients for pet food, agricultural feed, fertilizer, fuel industries, and more.

As we transition our brand, we will continue to operate in the solid reputation and dedication we are known for. Every success along the way has been because of our valued suppliers and the relationships built over our 60-year history.

As we become ‘Darling Ingredients’, we remain your dedicated business partner.
